Yes, the Rose is considered an herb. The rose has been
cultivated for centuries for a number of uses. You most likely have stopped at
a rose blossom, lifted it to your face and inhaled deeply. Immediately a sense
of comfort and peace settled over your mind and body. You just experienced
aromatherapy at its most primal, natural form.
In your kitchen you may have made rose vinegar, rose syrup
and rose jelly. Fresh rose petals chopped into butter or cream cheese makes a
delightful spread for tea sandwiches.
Rose petals are also cooling to the skin. If you overheat
this summer, soak a washcloth in some cooled rose water infusion and apply to
your temples and wrists. Rose vinegar not only makes a delicious addition to a
summer salad dressing, but can be applied to sunburn to soothe and heal.
